The Women’s Centre was founded in 1994 for women, by women. We provide a wide range of services to support women in their lives.
 
The Centre is a Charity and Company Limited by Guarantee financed by a variety of funders which include Glasgow City Council Communities Fund as well as the North West Health and Social Care Partnership.
 
Our vision is to ensure social and economic equality for all groups of women in Glasgow.
 

Company Aims 

The Women’s Centre offers social, therapeutic and educational activities with the general aim of em- powering local women across all aspects of their lives. We also aim to: 
 
  • Increase women’s self-confidence in order to build their strength and resilience. – Encourage women to develop existing and discover new skills.
  •  Raise awareness about issues surrounding women’s health and create a safe and welcoming environment for all women to receive education, counselling or other support. 
  • Motivate women to use their voice as individuals and collectively recognise other women’s achievements.

Current Vacancies

For over 25 Years we have provided a safe space for women in Glasgow. We aim to empower women by offering them opportunities to strengthen their choices in a challenging economic climate leading to changing their lives.

Project Worker; Domestic Abuse

Based at: The Women’s Centre, 17-33 Shawpark Street, Glasgow G20 9DA
Salary: £16,000 per annum
(20 hours per week to be worked flexibly in line with the needs of the centre. This may include occasional evening or weekend work.)
Responsible to: Centre manager. What does this role entail? 

The worker will be expected to be a member of the staff team and contribute to the work and ethos of the Centre.: To provide a safe place for women to meet and be offered social, therapeutic and educative activities with the aim of empowering women in all aspects of their lives. 

Scope: 
  • Identify the support networks available to women experiencing domestic abuse
  • Link women into the services available in the centre
  • Signposting women and families affected by domestic abuse to key services to help them
  • Identify key organisations who support women and to build and work in partnership with them
  • Develop and contribute to the work of North West Violence Against Women Local Delivery Group
  • Contribute and work in partnership and take a leading role in expanding the current programme of events e.g. 16 Days of Action
  • To develop group work support if required
  • Develop and raise awareness of domestic abuse within and out with the Centre
  • Work as part of the staff team to support our women. 
Requirements for this role: 
  • Robust understanding of issues relating to domestic abuse and its effects on women and families – Experience of working with women experiencing gender based violence
  • Relevant experience of working with women and families
  • Developmental experience E.g. within projects
  • Contribute to policies and strategic development
  • Evidence ability to work independently and as a skilled team member 
Additional desirable
  • Group work experience
  • Experience of delivering training in domestic abuse

Centre Manager

What does this role entail? 
The Centre Manager role will require you to implement and evaluate the work of the centre on behalf of the Board, fulfilling our mission of empowering women and ensuring the sustainability of the Centre for the future.
 

Scope 

 
Internal 
  • Implementing and managing centre programme of work to improve sustainability 
External 
  • Local and national government, community organisations and networks
  • Ensuring good management of the Centre in terms of finance, human resources, fabric, legal compliance 
  • Implementing and managing the programme agreed by the Board of the Women#s Centre to meet agreed targets
  • Reporting to the Board of Directors on the delivery of the Centre programme and development
  • Collecting data to evaluate the programme against agreed targets
  • Ensuring that continued delivery of benefits can be achieved and measured
  • Engaging women in the activities and opportunities offered within the Centre and identifying and creating new opportunities to be involved
  • Writing funding applications and identifying funding opportunities
  • Develop new partnerships to maximise benefits to the centre

Finance Assistant

WE ARE LOOKING TO RECRUIT A NEW FINANCE ASSISTANT AT THE WOMENS CENTRE APPLICATIONS CLOSE 27TH MAY 2022 PART-TIME POSITION

Post: Finance Assistant and Office Administrator
Salary: £13000 pro rata
Hours: 20 hours over 5 days
Location: Glasgow (office-based)

Scope: Internal Administration and record keeping of centre finances.

Responsible for:
• balancing of cash from till
• posting to book keeping/ accounting records to Excel
• action any instructions per finance e.g. purchase or sales invoices
• preparation of volunteer and tutor expenses
• any purchasing for the centre e.g. stationery, event materials, class materials etc. and filing matching invoices with delivery notes:
• prepare banking
• transfer bookkeeping to accounts
• update staff records e.g. holidays/ absence
• balance payroll cash and provisions float
• balance bank (bank reconciliation)
• all finance records posted to Sage software and trial balance squared
• prepare staff payroll record submissions to GCVS and transfer appropriate funds
• GCVS payroll records collated and checked
• prepare finance reports for the Board of Trustees

Board of Directors Vacancy

ROLE:

The Women’s Centre Glasgow Board of Directors is looking for new directors to work alongside the existing team to bring our board up to full capacity. We currently have a Chair, Treasurer and 7 other spaces taken by directors. There are also 9 members of staff and over 30 volunteers who assist in the delivery of our services across Glasgow. We are seeking to recruit new members in a director role.

In all of our work, we focus on securing social an economic equality for all groups of women in Glasgow. We aim to ensure women’s rights are realised regardless of ability, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, age or background.

We are specifically looking for people who have an interest in HR, policy setting or with a financial background to help us develop as a team and prepare to accommodate the increasing demand on our services.

Our board consists of representatives with backgrounds in Community Education, Adult Education, NHS, Fundraising, Business, Community Activism and Management. However, we would welcome applicants with experience in other sectors in order to diversify out skillset.

Our board’s responsibility is the governance and management oversight of The Women’s Centre funding responsibilities. There are also opportunities to be involved in a more handson manner.

Working with The Women’s Centre can be very rewarding; with opportunities to meaningfully engage with local women, partnership agencies and corporate organisations. You will also become involved in the provision of supporting women, families and the community.

Our board’s responsibility is the governance and overseeing the management of the Women’s Centre with funding responsibilities and there are also opportunities to become involved in a more hands-on capacity.

Opportunities for volunteers:

Even if you can’t commit to becoming a trustee, we appreciate many forms of volunteer help in our activities. We have projects in the office, café, counselling, health, well-being and we also welcome volunteer Trainers with different skill sets.

Reception and Administration Volunteers

Reception/administration volunteers help us deliver excellent customer care and tasks can include:

Handling phone and email enquiries
Processing enquiries through our booking system
Assisting with event duties

Contact clients to arrange appointments
Use photocopier, and other office machines as appropriate.
General administrative tasks

Inhouse customer service and communication training is available and ongoing in our volunteer programme.

The role involves communication and working with IT so there are a few essential requirements:

Clear and confident as you will be front of house.

Ability to pay close attention to detail.

Ability to explain concepts clearly and talk about our services in a friendly manner.

Ability to use your initiative well.

Competence with using IT Flexible to work as a part of a team or independently.

We require:

An understanding of and an ability to adhere to the Women’s Centre’s confidentiality policy.

This role would suit someone wishing to gain experience in an admin role or someone with experience who is looking to volunteer within the community.

We require a commitment of 3 months in the first instance and you will be required to complete a PVG.
